The White-browed Laughingthrush is an introduced species from Southeast and East Asia, now residing year-round in localized areas of Honshu, including Gunma Prefecture. Measuring roughly the size of a Brown-eared Bulbul, its upperparts are warm brown, and its face is marked with white around the eyes, making it distinguishable from similar-looking species.
This bird inhabits forest undergrowth and thickets from lowlands to foothills, as well as urban green spaces such as parks. Its vocalizations are loud and distinctive, often described as “gyo-gyo-gyo ju-i ju-i ji,” carrying across the surrounding vegetation. It frequently forms small groups and actively forages among shrubs and reed patches, displaying a notable presence within its localized habitats.
