Read in English — ✴︎ Taiwan White-eye
The Taiwan White-eye (Zosterops simplex) is a small bird of the family Zosteropidae, widely found across Taiwan, especially in urban areas and lowland forests. Slightly smaller than the Japanese White-eye, it features a more distinct white eye-ring. It can often be seen in small parks and green spaces. Its voice is a faint “Chichi-chi,” barely audible at times.
This species primarily feeds on fruits and nectar, but also consumes small insects. Observing its foraging behavior in urban greenery and lowland forests provides insight into its adaptive and agile lifestyle in Taiwan’s varied habitats.
