Read in English — ✴︎ Autumn Gold at Mount Asama
Mount Asama (2,568 m) is an active volcano on the border of Gunma and Nagano prefectures. Seen from the outer rim mountains, including Mt. Kurofu, it shows a unique autumn appearance that is different from its snowy winter look.
The surrounding area is covered with larch trees. Only for about two weeks just before the first snowfall each year, the green leaves turn bright yellow, painting the wide slopes in gold.
From the ridges of the outer rim mountains, you can see Mount Asama in front. In the morning, the mountain is backlit, and its shape looks dark. As the sun moves west, the sunlight reveals the details of the slopes, the volcanic rocks, and the uneven terrain left by past eruptions.
In late autumn, this golden landscape appears for a short time in the season’s gap. Along with the snow-covered peak in winter, it fascinates people as another peak of Mount Asama, leaving a strong and lasting impression.
