A small primate inhabiting the limited forests of Bohol Island in the Philippines. Measuring only about 12–15 cm — roughly the size of a human palm — it is characterized by its large eyes and elongated fingers, perfectly adapted to a nocturnal lifestyle.
During the day, it hides deep within thickets or among bamboo branches, emerging at night to hunt insects and small animals. Its enormous eyes have evolved to capture prey even in darkness, and it is known for its distinctive ability to rotate its head nearly 180 degrees to either side.
At once endearing and mysterious, the Philippine tarsier has long been cherished as a symbol of the country’s natural heritage. Today it can be observed in designated sanctuaries, yet as an endangered species highly sensitive to human contact and stress, it must be approached with quiet respect and careful observation.
