Its gentle ridgelines and open summit make it a friendly route even for beginners. Beyond the trail lies Lake Onuma, which in winter often freezes over so completely that one can walk across its thick ice. Beneath the crystal-clear surface, countless air bubbles—known as ice bubbles—are trapped in time, quiet works of natural art created by the season’s chill.
At the mountain’s foot, the headwaters of the Kasukawa River flow through the “Fairy Forest.” In the depths of winter, its running waters solidify into cascading icefalls.
Layer upon layer of bluish ice forms delicate structures, sculptures shaped by frost and flowing time. The scene reflects not merely coldness but the profound depth of the winter season—captivating all who come to witness it.
