白馬岳山頂から望む、雲海に浮かぶ杓子岳と白馬鑓ヶ岳
杓子岳（しゃくしだけ・標高2,812m）および白馬鑓ヶ岳（はくばやりがたけ・標高2,903m）は、飛騨山脈の後立山連峰に属し、長野県と富山県の県境に位置する。北の白馬岳とあわせて「白馬三山」と呼ばれ、その稜線は北アルプスの中でも象徴的な連なりを形成している。
富山県側は長期的に見ると雪土の堆積作用によりなだらかな斜面が形成されやすい傾向にあり、一方で長野県側は日本海側からの風雪による削り・崩落が強く働き、急峻で切り落としたような地形が発達する。
白馬岳山頂から南方に目を向けると、手前に杓子岳、その奥に白馬鑓ヶ岳が連なる。山頂から15分ほど下った場所には、明治期創建の白馬山荘があり、およそ120年にわたりこの景観を見守り続けてきた。夜明け、日の出と共に雲海を貫いて立ち上がる山容は、圧倒的な質量感をもって視界を支配し、息をのむ眼福の時を過ごすことができる。

Mt. Shakushi (2,812 m) and Mt. Hakuba-Yari (2,903 m) belong to the Ushiro-Tateyama Range of the Northern Japan Alps. They stand on the border between Nagano and Toyama Prefectures. Together with Mt. Hakuba to the north, they form the “Three Hakuba Peaks,” one of the most symbolic mountain ridges in the Northern Alps.
On the Toyama side, snow and soil tend to build up over time, creating gentle slopes. In contrast, the Nagano side is shaped by strong winds and snow from the Sea of Japan, forming steep and rugged cliffs.
Looking south from the summit of Mt. Hakuba, Mt. Shakushi appears in the foreground, followed by Mt. Hakuba-Yari. About a 15-minute walk down from the summit stands the Hakuba Mountain Lodge, founded in the Meiji era, which has watched over this magnificent view for more than 120 years.
At dawn, when the sun rises above the sea of clouds, the mountains rise powerfully into the morning light, filling the view with an overwhelming sense of presence and beauty.
